PARENT TEACHER POTLUCK
PS 3 is a bustle of activity inside the classroom and out. There’s so much going on, it can be hard to get a fix on it all. Gatherings like this provide an opportunity for parents and teachers to mingle and talk about subjects of common interest in a relaxed atmosphere.
HALLOWEEN PARADE
Kids, teachers and parents join together for a neighborhood walk. Lots of color and laughter make this one of PS 3's most cherished traditions!
KIDS' ART
A favorite among PS 3 students and parents (grandparents!) alike, this fundraiser features our kids' original artwork transferred onto their choice of magnets, t-shirts, mugs, trivets, note cards, etc.
FALL FESTIVAL
The PS 3 Fall Festival brings together students, parents, teachers and neighbors alike for autumn family fun. The festival (attended by over 500 guests per year!) includes carnival games & prizes, huge inflatables, a beautiful hayride around the historic West Village, unique arts & crafts, live music, class-donated basket raffle, seasonal vendors, a delicious food court and art cafe, a quality raffle, used & new book sale, make-your-own caramel apples and lots more!! The Fall Festival is truly an all-community event which requires over one hundred volunteers to make the day happen. .
GREENWICH VILLAGE ANTIQUARIAN BOOK FAIR / WEBSITE
February 20-22, 2009
Hosted by PS 3 since 1980, this event for rare book collectors and book lovers is the school's major public event. Hundreds of booksellers across the country bring their wares to booths at the school, and people from all over the city visit PS 3 to catch this distinctive book fair.
SILENT AUCTION
Featuring artwork, clothes, vacations, crafts, and everything imaginable that parents and local businesses can possibly donate, this fundraiser is geared for adults. An array of wines,
a great assortment of food and live music is offered, along with the ability to view auctioned items online before the bidding begins. Coordinators will oversee publicity, food, drink, entertainment, sponsors, donations, decorations, set up & clean up.
ENVIRONMENTAL ARTS DAY
We're proud of our school's involvement in the arts and, specifically, our endeavors to become a recycling school. Our arts teacher, Lupi, inaugurated this event in 2006, with amazing verve and artistic fervor.
Features included - children performing a Trash Fashion Show (all garments made from trash bags and recycled materials) and a hubcap/hose gamelan orchestra.
A "PS 3 Charrette" in the name of our school--the John Melser Charrette School.
"Charrette," which originated in 19th-century in Paris at the Ecole des Beaux Arts, referred to carts in which architectural students loaded their design assignments as they rushed through the streets on their way to school. Nowadays "charrette" refers to group efforts to solve design problems. Hence the challenge of engaging the PS 3 community to begin thinking and designing solutions to environmental issues.
Children’s ideas were added to the PS 3 Environmental Arts Day Charrette. Each student contributed an idea for recycling.
SQUARE DANCE
Real country western music, finger-licken' good grub, a petting zoo, and a whole heap o' fun.
WRITING FESTIVAL
This annual event, the brain-child of a former PS 3 student who wanted to celebrate the children's writing, includes readings of selected works from each classroom as well as guest authors.
CHILDREN'S BOOK FAIR
The Children's Book Fair is usually held during the week of parent-teacher conferences in April and provides an opportunity for parents and kids to buy books, journals, pens, calendars, and other items at school - while supporting PS 3 in the process.
TALENT SHOW
Time to showoff everyone's special talents. This annual event is not to be missed!
